Wahine: Kikaha and Seattle Outrigger Dueling to the photo finish
I think 1999 was not sponsored by the Gorge Games so without prize money the Hawaiian of California teams couldn't afford to race. Instead, for the me there was strong local Seattle team that won called Hui Wa'a O Waikinikona . This included strong marathon paddlers who have also raced outriggers for some time. As a few Native American Indian teams are also big paddling teams, notably the Autum Rose team from Lumni Belligham Washington. At times some of their members were on that strong mixed team as they even won the annual Seattle Grind even though one paddler was removed and they finished with 5 paddlers (but were later disqualified).
