Kikaha and their first Calmar (Nia). Note the great job of a cover:-) In particular, notice that seats 5/6 are not covered. In this race, seat 5, Vance, ended up bailing most of the race. The long canoes really take a beating in the rough water where the swells are very close together. It's hard to get a photo from land that does the race justice.

1998 marked a bigger involvment by paddling teams, being won by the Scallterheads and Scatterchicks again. There were now 15 women teams and 16 men's teams. The canadians have to drive almost 400 miles to participate.
This was my first and without a full cover on the canoe we ended up bailing most of the time.
